ABSTRACT Brazilian soybean producers commonly apply maintenance potassium (K) fertilization during cultivation to restore the K taken up by plants; however, this measure can modify the morphophysiological plant characteristics, since the functions of K are closely related with plant growth and development. This study assessed the morphological changes in soybean plants in response to K rates, sowing fertilization, and the application periods of K fertilization in a Latossolo Vermelho eutroférrico (Oxisol) under a no-tillage system, located in the municipality of Floresta, Paraná. A randomized block design was used in the experiment with four replications in a fully crossed factorial design (5 × 2 × 2). The experiment was carried out in two growing seasons... |

The application of vegetal bioregulators has shown promising results, mainly in cultures that have already reached a high level of technology. Based on this context an experiment was carried out with the objective of evaluating agronomic traits of plants, such as yield and quality of seeds, produced by applying bioregulators to a soybean crop. For this purpose, the following treatments were carried out: before sowing - seed treatment (25, 50 and 75 mL for 100 kg-1 seeds); during sowing time - spraying on the sowing lines (pulverization onto the sowing lines) (50, 100 and 150 mL ha-1); between stages V5 and V6 (25, 50 and 75 mL ha-1); and the control - no treatment. Emergence speed, final seedling emergence, number of pods and seeds per plant, average... |

ABSTRACT Model calibration is a fundamental factor to obtain high accuracy in the estimation of crop growth and yield. This study aimed to parameterize the genetic and ecotype coefficients of the DSSAT/Canegro model for five sugarcane cultivars kept under three water managements, besides evaluating the accuracy of the model in predicting sugarcane stalk yield, sugar yield and height. Experimental field data were obtained from two years (2016 and 2017) of cultivation at FCAV/Universidade Estadual Paulista, Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil. The cultivars were maintained under supplementary irrigation, deficit irrigation and no irrigation. Data of the supplementary irrigation treatment (without stress) were used for the parameterization of each cultivar. Model... |

ABSTRACT Obtaining high yields in strawberry crop requires the use of transplants with high sanitary and physiological quality. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the origin of strawberry transplants on quality, carbohydrate content and subsequent development and field production. Treatments covered four transplant origins: Argentina, Chile, Chuí (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) and São Francisco de Paula (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) and two cultivars (Camarosa and Camino Real) in experimental design of randomized blocks with four replicates, conducted between April and December 2010. Carbohydrate content in crown and roots was evaluated, as well as the growth and development of transplants and plant yield. Regardless of cultivar and origin... |

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of adding slow-release urea to replace conventional urea in the diet on carcass characteristics of feedlot sheep. We used 20 Santa Ines x SRD rams, with average body weight of 21.1±1.2 kgand average age of 120 days, distributed in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments. The replacement levels used as treatments were 0, 20, 40, 60, and 80%, composing diets of about 12% crude protein, with 50 % Tifton-85 hay and 50% concentrate. There was no influence of slow release urea on weight at slaughter (35.17 kg), and on hot (16.75 kg) and cold (16.24 kg) carcass weight, but the yield of these carcasses showed quadratic trend, revealing lower percentages at 48.5 and 47.63% replacement levels, respectively. The... |

This work was carried out in Jaboticabal (575 m altitude, 21°15΄ 22˝ S and 48° 15΄ 58˝ W), São Paulo, Brazil, aiming to investigate the effects of cattle manure and nitrogen (urea) doses on radish height and yield. Randomized blocks were used with a 2x4x4 factorial scheme and 3 replications. The treatments were combinations of cultivars (25 and 19), cattle manure doses (0, 25, 50, and 75 t ha-1 dry basis) and N doses (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1). Increased cattle manure and urea doses provided higher plant height and commercial yield in both cultivars, but the N produced more signifcant effects than the cattle manure. The maximum commercial yield of cultivar (cv) 19 (20.34 t ha-1) was obtained using 75 t ha-1 of cattle... |

ABSTRACT: The mysterious ancient Mesoamerican Indian crop chia (Salvia hispanica) is revived and expanding worldwide due to its richness of valuable nutraceuticals such as α-linolenic acid (ALA), antioxidants, food fiber, gels, and proteins. We carried out a pilot experiment on chia planting in non-frost Sichuan Basin, at Hechuan Base (30˚0′ 43″ N, 106˚7′ 41″ E, 216 m), Southwest University, Chongqing, China. The split-plot trial contained two factors, 3 spring-summer sowing times as main plots, and 6 densities as subplots, with 3 replicates. Phenological, botanical, adversity, yield, and seed quality traits were investigated. Plants were very tall, suffered from lodging, and flowered in mid-October. Sichuan Basin can be considered as a north edge for... |

ABSTRACT ‘Pêra’ sweet orange is the most important citrus cultivar in Brazil, but it is highly susceptible to Citrus tristeza virus (CTV), the causal agent of citrus tristeza disease. In this study, we evaluated the severity of citrus tristeza disease and its relation with the agronomic performance of seven cultivars and six selections of ‘Pêra’ sweet orange under field conditions in the North and Northwest regions of the State of Paraná, Brazil. The citrus tristeza disease severity was determined based on symptoms of stem pitting. The vegetative growth assessed in trees of all four locations for the 2012 season, and in two field plots for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 harvests, respectively. The cultivar ‘IPR 153’ (Bianchi) had the best performance concerning... |
